Temora Shire Council has done it again, winning the A.R Bluett Award for an historic second time. Council was named the winner for 2008/09 in the Shires Association section of the prestigious awards. The announcement was made on Sunday 24th October, 2009 by A.R Bluett Memorial Trust chairman, John Flannery, during the Local Government Association conference at Tamworth. The award is presented each year to the council, which in the opinion of the trustees, has made the greatest relative progress. Presented each year since 1945, it is the highest accolade to which a council can aspire. Temora last won the A.R Bluett Award in 1981, the first year of the newly amalgamated Temora Shire Council. For this years awards, Council prepared a 30 page submission, outlining its many achievements of the past 12 months. Among these were the upgrade of Temora Town Hall, including the establishment of the cinema, the inaugural Sustainable Lifestyle Expo, the Bush Buck initiative, Temora Airfield Tourist Park and its planned cabins, surveillance cameras for the main street area and of course the aviation estate. Councils General Manager, was likewise ecstatic with Temora's achievement. Cr Speirs said he understood the award would be presented in Temora, before Christmas. Planning would begin shortly, he said on a suitable celebration to mark the occasion. Temora Independent - Tuesday 27th October, 2009 Contact details |
